Build Confidence in Your ESG Data
The global sustainability reporting landscape is evolving rapidly. While many organisations have focused on establishing their ESG reporting processes over recent years, regulators are increasingly turning their attention to the quality, reliability and assurance of sustainability information.
In Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Stock Exchange encourages issuers to obtain external assurance over sustainability disclosures. Meanwhile, the Accounting and Financial Reporting Council (AFRC) has consulted on introducing mandatory limited assurance requirements as Hong Kong progressively adopts the HKFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards for the financial year commencing 1 January 2028.
Similarly, Singapore Stock Exchange has also announced a phased roadmap towards mandatory external limited assurance over Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions for listed issuers in the financial year commencing 1 January 2029.
Although assurance requirements will be introduced progressively, organisations are encouraged to strengthen their ESG data governance, internal controls and reporting processes well in advance. Early preparation not only improves reporting quality but also reduces the time, cost and effort required when assurance becomes mandatory.
Assurance Readiness Starts Long Before the Assurance Engagement
Successful assurance is built on reliable data, robust documentation and effective internal controls.
Many organisations discover during the assurance process that they face challenges such as
- inconsistent calculation methodologies;
- incomplete supporting evidence;
- fragmented data collection procedures; or
- insufficient audit trails.
Resolving these issues at the assurance stage can be both time-consuming and costly.
GreenCo helps organisations prepare for assurance before these challenges arise. By reviewing reporting processes, greenhouse gas calculations and supporting documentation in advance, we help clients strengthen the quality and credibility of their sustainability reporting.
